Sindhu becomes India's first world champion; thrashes Okuhara 21-7, 21-7

P.V. Sindhu, who was playing in her third consecutive world championship final, dominated Okuhara to win .



P.V Sindhu won her first Badminton World Championship title beating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in straight games on Sunday.

Sindhu, who was playing in her third consecutive world championship final, dominated Okuhara to win 21-7, 21-7 and become the first Indian to win a gold medal at the world championships.

Sindhu lifts world championship title: As it happened

The Indian was at her attacking best as she took a 11-2 lead in the first game. Sindhu looked liike she could do no wrong as she cruised through the first game in just 16 minutes, winning it 21-7.

The second game wasn't too different. She raced to a 11-4 lead against the Japanese, who defeated her in the final in 2017. Sindhu looked unstoppable from there on, finishing the match in just 37 minutes.

A 26 year old Zimbabwean man has been arrested after he was caught pretending to be his girlfriend so that he could write her final exam on behalf. Mkonzi Mbango disguised himself as a women and pretended to be his girlfriend so that he could write her exam for her. According to Mbango, he wanted to help his girlfriend because she was failing.
